General Information
For the application you always need German language skills at a certain level, which you can prove with a language certificate.
The final language certificate must always be submitted. A
temporarily issued language certificate, registration for a language
course or a certificate of attendance are NOT sufficient.
If the language certificate consists of a front and back page or
several pages, ALL pages must be submitted to uni-assist in officially
certified copies by the end of the application deadline.
Applications that are incomplete or not in the correct form by the
deadline will not be considered and will be
rejected.
For attending the Preparatory School / Preparatory Course
Recognized proofs of German language skills:
- Certificate B2 or higher in accordance with the European Framework of Reference
- DSH-1, that is officially recognized from the German Hochschulrektorenkonferenz [2] (Please note: this website is only available in German)
- TestDaF with TDN 3 or higher in all modules
- Deutsches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz - Stufe 1 (DSD I)
- OnDaF B2 / OnSET-Deutsch
- Certificate from the Goethe-Institut confirming participation in the C1 course
- 1st or 2nd foreign language German in school leaving certificate
- IB Diploma: "Language A at Standard Level or Higher Level or Language B at Higher Level"
- "Realschulabschluss / Mittlerer Schulabschluss (MSA)" according to the German education system
Attention: Nationals of Germany, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland also need a language certificate at the required level. A copy of your identity card or passport is NOT sufficient proof of German language skills.
External assessment test (without attending the Preparatory School)
Recognized proofs of German language skills:
- Certificate C1 or higher in accordance with the European Framework of Reference
- DSH-1, that is officially recognized from the German Hochschulrektorenkonferenz [3] (Please note: this website is only available in German)
- TestDaF with at least 16 points (at least with the result TDN 3)
- Deutsches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz - Stufe 1 (DSD I)
- "Realschulabschluss / Mittlerer Schulabschluss (MSA)" according to the German education system
- IB Diploma: "Language A or B at Higher Level"
Attention: Nationals of Germany, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland also need a language certificate at the required level. A copy of your identity card or passport is NOT sufficient proof of language skills!
Supplementary test (without attending the Preparatory School)
Recognized proof of German language skills:
- Proof of passing the German language section of an assessment test at a German Preparatory School (with at least grade 4)
Undergraduate programs
Please note: At the bottom of this page you will find the non-recognized proofs German language skills.
ONLY the following proofs of German language skills are recognized for admission:
- Applicants with German, Austrian or Swiss citizenship (Switzerland: only German-speaking region) must only provide a copy of their passports
- DSH-2 or DSH-3, that are officially recognized from the German Hochschulrektorenkonferenz [4] (Please note: this website is only available in German)
- final certificate: "TestDaF" with TDN 4 or higher in all modules
- Module "Deutsch" of the
assessment exam of a German Studienkolleg (at least grade 4)
- "Deutsches Sprachdiplom der
Kultusministerkonferenz - Level II" (DSD II)
- "Deutsche Sprachprüfung II" (DS II)
of the Sprachen- und Dolmetscher-Institut München
- "Goethe-Zertifikat C2: großes Deutsches
Sprachdiplom"
- "telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule"
- Proof of a study qualification acquired at a German-speaking institution (for example: German Abitur, successfully completed studies at a university with the teaching language German). If the teaching language German is not clearly recognisable, additional proof of this must be enclosed.
- Completed vocational training in Germany
If you can provide a secondary school leaving certificate listet in the KMK-Beschluss vom 12.12.2007 [5] (see page 4; only available in German), another proof of German proficiencies is not necessary.
Non-Recognized proofs of German language
skills:
- "Oberstufe" corresponding to Level C1 (DSH 2) from the Hartnackschule
- foreign university degree in "Germanistik" (German Language and Literature)
- IB Diploma: "IB Deutsch als Sprache A oder B im Standard Level oder Higher Level"
- Subject "German" in a secondary school leaving certificate (exceptions see: KMK-Beschluss vom 12.12.2007 [6] - only available in German)
- DSH-2 or DSH-3, that are NOT officially recognized from the German Hochschulrektorenkonferenz
- Periods of study or academic and examination achievements at German universities - without successfully completed university studies at a German-speaking institution
- "Realschulabschluss / Mittlerer Schulabschluss (MSA)" according to the German education system
- "Zeugnis DAF" from the Dolmetscher Institut Münster
- "ÖSD-Prüfung C2 Wirtschaftssprache Deutsch"
