Entry requirements

Applicants with German university entrance qualification

University entrance qualification certificate

To be eligible for entry to an undergraduate degree you must hold a qualification for higher education entrance ("Hochschulzugangsberechtigung" = short term "HZB"). A distinction is drawn between general entrance qualification ("Allgemeine HZB") or subject-related entrance qualification ("Fachgebundene HZB"). If you hold a general entrance qualification you are eligible to apply for all Bchelor's programs or State exam programs unlike with "Fachgebundene HZB".

Please note: A vocational diploma (called "Fachabitur") is not admitted for an undergraduate program at TU Berlin.

Application with a German university entrance qualification

You hold a German university entrance qualification only if you have attended

  • a german high school
  • or a german high school in abroad - graduated with "Abitur"
  • a Bachelor or Master degree at a German university

Please note: Applicants who successfully took an assessment test in any preparatory program (i.e. a "Studienkolleg" T or W course ) do not hold a German university entrance qualification but a subject based international university entrance qualification. They need to apply at TU Berlin via uni-assist.e.V. Click here for further information.

Medium of instruction

Please note, that currently all undergraduate programs are teached in German. You definitely need sufficient language skills in German even if several lectures in a few programs will be given in English. Currently medium of instruction is German!
